How to Use the Date Calculator
This calculator handles four date operations: find the span between two dates, add or subtract time units from a date, count business days excluding weekends, and look up the day of the week for any date. Date pickers support dropdown navigation for fast month and year selection.
Calculation Modes
Difference
Enter a start date and an end date. The calculator returns the inclusive number of days between them, plus a breakdown in weeks, months, and years. Both the start and end dates are counted. January 1 to January 2 returns 2 days, not 1.
Example: January 1, 2024 to March 15, 2024
- Start Date: January 1, 2024
- End Date: March 15, 2024
- Result: 75 days
- Total Weeks: 10
- Total Months: 2
- Total Years: 0
After calculating, two tables appear. The Date Difference Breakdown shows the start date, end date, total days, and conditional rows for total weeks, total months, and total years when each is greater than zero. The Additional Information table shows weekdays, weekends, complete weeks, and remaining days.
Example: June 1, 2020 to June 1, 2025
- Start Date: June 1, 2020
- End Date: June 1, 2025
- Result: 1,827 days
- Total Weeks: 260
- Total Months: 60
- Total Years: 5
After calculating, the same two tables appear.
Add/Subtract
Enter a start date, choose whether to add or subtract, pick a unit (days, weeks, months, or years), and enter an amount. The calculator uses calendar-aware math, so adding 1 month to January 31 gives February 28 (or 29 in a leap year).
Example: March 15, 2024, add 45 days
- Start Date: March 15, 2024
- Operation: Add
- Unit: days
- Amount: 45
- Result: April 29, 2024
After calculating, two tables appear. The Date Calculation Breakdown shows the original date, operation, amount with unit, and result date. The Day of Week table lists the original and result dates with their respective days of the week.
Example: January 1, 2024, subtract 3 months
- Start Date: January 1, 2024
- Operation: Subtract
- Unit: months
- Amount: 3
- Result: October 1, 2023
After calculating, the same two tables appear.
Business Days
Enter a start date and an end date. The calculator counts only Monday through Friday, excluding Saturday and Sunday. The count is inclusive. Holidays are not excluded.
Example: March 4, 2024 to March 15, 2024
- Start Date: March 4, 2024
- End Date: March 15, 2024
- Result: 10 business days
- Total Calendar Days: 12
- Weekend Days: 2
After calculating, two tables appear. The Business Days Breakdown shows the start date, end date, total calendar days, business days, and weekend days. The Summary table shows the percentage of business days and weekends, plus the number of complete weeks.
Example: December 20, 2024 to January 6, 2025
- Start Date: December 20, 2024
- End Date: January 6, 2025
- Result: 12 business days
- Total Calendar Days: 18
- Weekend Days: 6
After calculating, the same two tables appear.
Weekday
Enter any date to see what day of the week it falls on.
Example: July 20, 1969
- Select Date: July 20, 1969
- Result: Sunday
- Type: Weekend
- Day Number: 1 of 7
After calculating, a Weekday Information table appears showing the date, day of week, type (weekend or weekday), and day number from 1 to 7.
Example: January 1, 2025
- Select Date: January 1, 2025
- Result: Wednesday
- Type: Weekday
- Day Number: 4 of 7
After calculating, the same Weekday Information table appears.
